Disney's Aladdin is up for 5 Tony awards tonight

Disney's latest Broadway musical is up for five Tony Awards tonight including Best Musical.

Aladdin the Musical, which opened at the New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, is adapted from the 1992 Disney film - which is adapted from the story of Aladdin in One Thousand and One Nights.

The story focuses on the love story of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine. The production features all the songs from the movie as well as five new one written specifically for the stage.

Up for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical is the one and only Genie - James Monroe Iglehart, who has made this role his own. (Come on, it is tough following up the voice of Robin Williams from the movie. )

Disney Theatrical Productions has won 15 Tony Awards during the past decade, including awards for Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Peter and The Starcatcher and Newsies.

The show is being televised today at 8 p.m. on CBS.
