This is a Tsum Tsum, one of a line of stackable plushies Disney released this week in concert with a new SmartPhone game from Line. The game already is a hit in Japan, where it has been downloaded 14 million times.
The game itself is fast and furious; you play it in one-minute bursts by swiping your finger to connect the characters, similar to Candy Crush or Tetris. It's free to download from Apple's App Store or Google Play, but it does offer in-app purchases.
For now the characters include the Disney classics -- Mickey, Minnie, Donald and the Winnie the Pooh characters, as well as a couple of Pixar favorites. (Mike Wackowski, "with one eye," is an obvious choice. But where's Perry?) Soon, more than 30 difference characters will be available in the U.S.
The collectible plushies come in three sizes and range in price from $4.95 to $24.95. The minis will fit comfortably in the palm of your hand, while the super-size versions are 17 inches long.
They are a hit in Japan, too; more than 1.6 million have been sold in Disney Stores there since the line debuted 9 months ago.
As for me, I admit falling for a Beanie Baby or two back in the day, and Vinylmations never appealed to me. But these? Must. Resist. The Cute....
