Personalized Valentine's Day gifts from Etsy for Disney fans
Posted on 16:21 by the great khali
Valentine's Day can be a tricky gift-giving holiday. It's altogether too schmoopy for some people, and it fairly gets a bad rap for being incredibly commercialized.
But we're suckers for love, so we hit Etsy to look for creative ways to express your devotion to your Disney fan -- especially one who doesn't necessarily want to flaunt their Mickey Mouse on their sleeve.
Take this personalized cuff bracelet from Etsy (starting at $64). You can pick the coordinates of your favorite spot at Disney, and only the two of you ever need to know.
Have one of your favorite Disney quotes emblazoned on a copper wallet card insert that your loved one will see anytime he or she pulls out a credit card ($15, up to 75 characters).
Need some ideas? We like this quote, from Winnie the Pooh:
Perhaps this quote from Cinderella: "So this is love, so this is what makes life divine." Or, from Frozen: "Some people are worth melting for."
With the next silver ring, you can choose the width as well as the pattern and the inscription ($33 and up). The inscription can be a bit longer -- 40 to 50 characters. Another twist: You can get this one engraved in your own handwriting.
Think your romance is epic? Add your names to a list of famous couples that includes Mickey & Minnie, Lady & the Tramp, Beauty & the Beast and Cinderella & Prince Charming; $16.50 for an 8x10 print.
And if Disney is one of your favorite places, you can include it on a list of up to 10 locations on this 8x10 print ($12). Just have them put the heart next to Disney World.

Sing-along 'Frozen' coming to theaters next week
Posted on 18:17 by the great khali

A sing-along version of the movie is coming to theaters Jan. 31, complete with a bouncing snowflake to help you follow along with the lyrics on screen.
The new version will open in 1,000 theaters nationwide. By comparison, the original movie was No. 5 at the box office last week, and it was showing in almost 3,000 theaters.
" 'Frozen' fans have embraced the film's original songs and its soundtrack with such passion," Dave Hollis, Disney's executive vice president of theatrical distribution said in a statement. "It's a great opportunity for families to get together and have some fun with these songs."
Disney is clearly reveling in the success of "Frozen," confirming plans to make a stage show and releasing a version of "Let it Go" in 25 languages.
Until the singalong opens next week, warm up your vocal cords with Olaf on "In Summer":
Since there's no bouncing snowflake to follow just yet, here are the lyrics:
Bees'll buzz, kids'll blow dandelion fuzz
And I'll be doing whatever snow does in summer.
A drink in my hand, my snow up against the burning sand
Prob'ly getting gorgeously tanned in summer.
I'll finally see a summer breeze, blow away a winter storm.
And find out what happens to solid water when it gets warm!
And I can't wait to see, what my buddies all think of me.
Just imagine how much cooler I'll be in summer.
Dah dah, da doo, uh bah bah bah bah bah boo
The hot and the cold are both so intense,
Put 'em together it just makes sense!
Rrr Raht da daht dah dah dah dah dah dah dah dah doo
Winter's a good time to stay in and cuddle,
But put me in summer and I'll be a ... happy snowman!
When life gets rough, I like to hold on to my dream,
Of relaxing in the summer sun, just lettin' off steam.
Oh the sky will be blue, and you guys will be there too
When I finally do what frozen things do in summer.
See 'Let it Go' sung in 25 languages
Posted on 07:10 by the great khali
Disney has a viral sensation on its hands with a new video of "Let it Go" sung in 25 languages. Posted two days ago on YouTube, it already has more than 1 million hits.
The song is a mega-hit already, with Idina Menzel's version at No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. It also is nominated for an Oscar as Best Original Song.
The "Frozen" soundtrack, meanwhile, has been at the top of the Billboard 200 album chart for two weeks, in spite of not getting any radio airplay.
If the original version of "Let it Go" gives you chills -- in a good way -- this version will bring tears to your eyes. We'd nominate it for the opening of the Winter Olympics.

New 'Maleficent' trailer adds more nuance to 'Sleeping Beauty' villain
Posted on 17:05 by the great khali
Is Disney trying to turn its "greatest villain" into something more like a hero?
It seems that way in the second trailer for "Maleficent," which stars Angelina Jolie as the Mistress of All Evil who cursed Princess Aurora to die on her 16th birthday.
The new trailer weaves clips of the original animated Sleeping Beauty with scenes from the upcoming movie, which also stars Elle Fanning as the not-yet-sleeping beauty. We also get a look at the fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather at baby Aurora's christening.
The film is set to open May 30. Take a look:

Jeffrey Brown Darth Vader maquettes available for Father's Day
Posted on 16:10 by the great khali
Artist Jeffrey Brown has put a whole new spin on Star Wars with his illustrated books, "Darth Vader & Son" and "Vader's Little Princess," which imagine life with an involved daddy Darth.
This spring, the artists at Gentle Giant Studios are translating Brown's charming drawings into two 3D maquettes, one featuring little Luke giving his daddy a red tie with a Rebel logo pattern, and one with a knee-high Leia cutting hearts out of her daddy's black cape.
The limited edition, hand-numbered maquettes will each come with a special edition of the appropriate book, along with 16 pages of previously unreleased black-and-white concept sketches by the author. The sets also include a full-color illustration from Brown printed on board, packaged in a vellum sleeve.
Each box set sells for $149.99; pre-orders are being taken now. Gentle Giant says the sets will be available in the second quarter, but they seem squarely aimed at Father's Day.

Created entirely out of sculpted ice and snow, the "Frozen Suite" is modeled after Anna & Elsa's bedrooms at the Hôtel de Glace in Quebec City.
The suite, which was supervised by the "Frozen's" art director Michael Giaimo, will also have an activity cave. The suite will be remain open through March 23.
Hôtel de Glace is the only ice hotel in North America and is built every December to open in January.

Will 'Frozen' writer complete the coveted EGOT?
Posted on 18:50 by the great khali
With "Let it Go" nominated this week for an Oscar for Best Original Song, writer Robert Lopez has the chance to complete an "EGOT" -- that's Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony awards.
Lopez, who co-wrote the music and lyrics for "Frozen" with his wife Kristen Andersen-Lopez, already has three of the awards:
"Let it Go" is certainly the song of the moment, at least for anyone who has kids in their life. The "Frozen" soundtrack is at the top of the Billboard 200 for the second week in a row. The last animated movies soundtrack to spent more than one week at the top of the charts was "The Lion King" in 2004-2005. Still, "Let it Go" lost out on the Golden Globe last weekend to U2's "Ordinary Love," from "Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom."
If Lopez can pull off the win, he will be the 12th artist to complete the EGOT, and he will have done it in only 10 years. Here's a look at the 11 artists who have won all of the awards, from Wikipedia:

- Emmy: Lopez has a daytime Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition for "The Wonder Pets" (2008 and 2010). (He lost out on a "real" Emmy -- sorry! -- in 2007 for his work on "Scrubs.")
- Grammy: Best Musical Theater Album for "Book of Mormon" (2012).
- Tony: Best Original Score for "Avenue Q" (2004). Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score for "Book of Mormon" (2011). (Only two of the best shows to hit Broadway in the past decade. But I digress.)
